Workout Wednesday

I fell off the “Workout Wagon” for a couple of weeks. I still went to the gym just for the sake of “going to the gym” but didn’t really feel productive. This week was much better. 35 weeks of working out down, 4 to go. I think I can, I think I can.

Thursday:
1 hour bootcamp class.
I am officially in the back of the pack. I had to use ALOT of modifications during this class. It’s like all of a sudden pregnancy slapped me in the face and I have a big ol belly in the way and a baby on my bladder making jumping jacks dang near impossible.

Friday:
30 minutes on treadmill (4% incline 3.5 speed)
20 minutes on bike with resistance up as high as it would go (I think a 20 or 25) for a good leg burn/workout
Followed by the arm workout below…
Since I have been very limited on HIIT workouts during this last month of pregnancy, I have been really concentrating on trying to tone up my arms. I usually do cardio and a full body weight/body resistant workout. Well ladies and gentleman, that ain’t happening. So along with my cardio a.k.a. walking, I have really been upping my arm game. I usually do a quick high intensity arm workout with 8 or 10 lb. dumbbells and 15 reps of each move. The husband has informed me that in order to get more definition and become “stronger” I need to up my weights and lower my reps. Sounds easy, right?? Wrong! I am barely getting these dumbbells off the ground. Who knew 25 lbs is so heavy? My weight/reps have now changed to 12.5 lb. dumbbells and 8 reps. I am struggling. Hopefully ill get that definition I’m looking for soon. I may have to put down the cookie I’m eating while writing this though. Just call me counterproductive. Anyway, here is the set I’ve been doing 3 times a week.

Saturday:
Rest day. We enjoyed our first weekend at home in 5 weeks. We spent the morning taking the boys to the build and grow workshop at Lowe’s and the rest of the day at the pool. My kind of Saturday.

Sunday:
Rest day/worked in the yard and cleaned the house. That’s a workout if you ask me! There were definitely some calories burned!!

Monday:
I caught the last 40 minutes of the early spin class then did a set of arms.

Tuesday:
Arms again. Followed by a trekking class that totaled 72 minutes on the treadmill and 500 calories burned. Still not enough for the large 700 calorie chocolate chip frappe I had after. But, who’s counting??

Wednesday:
An hour on the treadmill varying inclines and speeds, basically just trying to make it through a full hour on the treadmill. Set of arms and some legs (squats, lunges, calves 25 reps of each and repeated set 3 times)

Now will you please excuse me while I count down the hours/minutes/seconds before the Big Brother premiere tonight. Does anyone else share this same summer obsession or am I the only BB super-fan out there? OBSESSED.

35 weeks and counting…

Did I really just type 3-5?! Can’t believe we are entering into our last month of pregnancy EVER! This pregnancy has FLOWN by. Everything about this pregnancy has been different than with my boys and I really am bittersweet about it ending. Well, kind of bittersweet and some days I’m just ready to get her out already! I’m sure all you moms out there can relate. It seems the closer I get to the end, the more pregnancy questions I get asked so I figured I would do a quick post/update.

According to the experts:

Your pregnancy at 35 weeks – Your baby doesn’t have much room to maneuver now that he’s over 18 inches long and tips the scales at 5 1/4 pounds (about the size of a honeydew melon). Because it’s so snug in your womb, he isn’t likely to be doing somersaults anymore, but the number of times he kicks should remain about the same. His kidneys are fully developed now, and his liver can process some waste products. Most of his basic physical development is now complete — he’ll spend the next few weeks putting on weight.”

According to me:

Wedding rings on or off? – Off. I can wear them in the mornings but by mid-day I can’t get them off my finger so I just haven’t been wearing them at all. I feel naked without them but I’d rather keep them in good shape than need them cut off. Thank you Memphis heat and humidity.

Weight gain so far – 26 pounds. With Hayden I gained a total of 80 lbs. Yup, you read that right. With Kash we weighed in right at the 50 lb. mark. Dixie has been REALLY nice to me. The downside is the doctor is saying that she is measuring really small so I have been trying to eat more protein etc. to fatten her up in these last 4 weeks. Also, I did not workout at all with both boys and I have worked out 3-5 days a week through the duration of this pregnancy so I guess that plays a big part too.

Swelling- I am a sweller ( <- you like that made up word, huh?) when I am not pregnant so it’s only natural that I swell more when I am pregnant. Mainly just at night after a long day in the heat or on my feet. But nothing too uncomfortable or Kim Kardashian like.

It still hurts me just looking at these pictures. And, the girl gave birth a month early.. can you imagine if she went full term?? Let’s not even mention the baby name, I still feel like they are going to come out and say “Just Kidding” on that one!

Cravings – I haven’t had any major cravings like have to have now cannot live without cravings this pregnancy. I am really enjoying the Chocolate Chip Frappe’s from Mcdonalds and I have a smoothie just about everyday too. Those are the only consistent could have them multiple times a day thing I really want right now.

Exercise – I am still in the gym 3-5 days a week, but more on the 3 side than the 5 lately. I am doing ALOT of walking and weights. I was able to catch the last 40 minutes of a spin class this morning and I still try and make my weekly bootcamp class but with a good bit of modifications.

Complications – I have been having some minor issues with my cervix that put me on 24 hours of bedrest last week and is keeping me at the doctor’s office weekly. Dixie is sitting pretty and the cervix issues are not posing any problems for her so I really don’t feel that worried about it. I do have an awesome OB that takes every precaution necessary and makes me feel really comfortable so that could be why I haven’t gone into “freak out mode” yet.

Bags packed – Nope. Not one thing. I have a baby shower this weekend and after that I plan on getting everything ready and packing our bags. Look for a post on that in the next week or so.

Nursery- as good as its going to get. I still need a few odds and ends but other than that if she decided to make her debut tomorrow I feel like we are prepared.

The day after my last “Workout Wednesday” post I had to go visit a cardiologist following my 32 week OB appointment. I was put on a 24 hour heart monitor and they ran all kind of tests. Sounds fun, huh? To sum it all up I was told I have severe anemia which is causing my heart to do all kinds of crazy things (jittery, beat really fast, hard to catch my breath etc.) Both my cardiologist and my OB assure me this is something common in 3rd trimester pregnancy and something that should work itself out postpartum <- have I mentioned that "postpartum" can't come fast enough??! Anyway, the baby is perfectly fine she is just measuring a little on the small side which is also common with the anemia. With that being said my working out has been cut back from 5 days a week to 3 and a lot less intense. Booooooo.

Like I mentioned before, we are soaking up every last second of summer which means we’ve pretty much thrown naps out the window for a little while. My kids are scheduled down to the minute during the school year and I’m trying to be a little more laid back about it this summer. Which has meant on most days, Kash passing out wherever and whenever he can!

We had VBS at our church last week. I volunteered with the 1st Graders and had this super sweet Down Syndrome girl really take to me. I think God sometimes puts something or someone into your life at just the right time. Though she was a feisty little thing we had the best time and I learned to practice more patience and to appreciate my own kids for all that they are!

We spent Father’s Day weekend on the water with some great friends! The boys and I are actually still here for a couple of more days enjoying some relaxation on the river.

Sunday:
For the first time ever, I push mowed our yard. I’ve always wanted to learn how and I actually really enjoyed it! We did lots of yard work and pulled weeds/mulched our flower beds. I’m totally counting that as a workout! I think I’m more sore from the yard work than 2 hours in the gym!!

Monday:
1 Hour spin class followed by 1 Hour Coreball class at the gym. Coreball is a class that offers a full body workout while using weight and the stability ball mainly concentrating on engaging the core.

Tuesday:
Did this workout with my not pregnant friend, Courtney. I know I labeled it “Pregnant Girl Workout” but don’t let it fool you. This was HARD. Instead of the .5 mile run/walk change it to a 1 mile run for you non-preggos.

Now that it is getting so hot outside I am back to my smoothie drinking. I have a lot of favorites but I am currently still loving this Post Workout Pregnancy Smoothie.

Another week in the books. Working out is becoming REALLY hard for many reasons, but I really do feel a lot better after I make myself go. I know it will make for an easier delivery/recovery. Fingers crossed!

June Meal Plan

Is it really June?! Hello Summer! Where has the first 5 months of this year gone?

I don’t know about you, but I have a really hard time meal planning in the warm months. We spend a majority of our day outside and nothing ever sounds wonderful at the end of a long, hot day and the last place you want to be is in the kitchen cooking! We are out of town every weekend but one this month so I broke my meal plan down by weeks. It just seemed easier. Here it is:

June 2-6

    • Hamburgers – I used 3lbs. ground beef, one dry Italian seasoning packet, salt, pepper, onion and garlic powder to taste with a couple of tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce. We found these instructions for “The Perfect Burger” a while back and we have used it ever since when grilling. The burgers really do turn out great everytime! I eat mine sans bun with A1 sauce…

  • Roasted Red Pepper and Ranch Pasta (I am going to add Chicken to this recipe) – recipe found here
  • Shrimp and Grits – This is such an easy, quick weeknight meal. I totally cheat by using a bag of medium frozen shrimp. I sauté it with some onion, butter, salt, pepper and minced garlic. I throw a couple of packets of grits on the stove and you are done. We usually pair it with Texas Toast or Biscuits.

June 10-13

    • French Dip – recipe found here
    • Spaghetti
    • Pizza – as in Little Caesar’s new deep dish pepperoni for $8. A new family favorite around here. If you haven’t tried it, go get one now…you’ll thank me later!
