Friday’s Five

1. A wonderful and relaxing Memorial Day Weekend at the Lake with my favorite boys.

2. McDonald’s Chocolate Chip Frappe. Probably the best thing my taste buds have ever experienced. I’m obsessed.

3. A shorter new haircut. I love it and think I am going to go even shorter in the next few weeks!

4. Will and I are new to this “Duck Dynasty” trend. I think we’ve watched every episode from seasons 1,2 and 3 in the last few months. Will got me both Willie and Korie and Phil’s books for Mother’s Day. I’m currently reading Willie and Korie’s and I can’t put it down. There is so much story behind the story and I’m really just fascinated with this family and their self made empire. If you are looking for a good read, I highly recommend it.

5. Celebrating my mom turning the big “50” this week. She hates when I put pictures of her on social media/the Internet but you only turn 50 once!! I love you, Mom! 🙂

Workout Wednesday

How was everyone’s long weekend? Mine was a lot of fun and a perfect way to kick off our summer. Here are my workouts for the past week…
50 minutes on Treadmill – 10 minutes 8 incline, 10 minutes 6 incline, 10 minutes 4 incline, 10 minutes 2 incline, 10 minutes 0 incline
followed by this Pinterest workout:
*disclaimer: I often screenshot workouts from pinterest and do not actually “pin” them. I do not take credit for this workout and give full credit to the original pinner.

Did my own thing in the gym. And, for the first time I actually documented everything I did so I can share it with you. This workout was REALLY hard. I’m not sure if it is was because I’m going on 8 months pregnant and SO over the gym I did a lot of legs last week and was already sore or if it’s just a hard workout in general. But, I felt really good after and I was sore for a couple of days. Enjoy…

Saturday: Rest Day. As in, lay on a boat and do nothing but get sunburned.
Sunday: 3 mile walk with the family @ the cabin.
Oh, the sights you will see in south Tennessee

I think a little person got a hold of my phone at the point…
It was a very leisurely walk with 4 adults, 2 kids and 5 dogs. There was a lot of standing and waiting and walking. Do what you can, right?

Monday: Memorial Day. Rest Day. More laying on a boat and burning.

Tuesday: 1 hour Trekking class – 360 calories burned – “Trekking” is a treadmill training class offered at our gym that involves an hour of different intervals and speeds on the treadmill. It is one of my favorite classes. At this point, most of the class is spent power walking (3.5-4 speed) for me while changing my incline but yesterday I did manage to run (5.5 speed) for a little bit of the class. Even though I don’t get the full potential out of the class like I’m used to, It’s still a great workout surrounded by some of my favorite gym peeps and instructor.
45 minute Muscle Works class – A group fitness class that gives you a full body workout.

Wednesday: A 3 mile walk around my Mom’s neighborhood with my Mom.
Danskin dri fit shirt from Wal-Mart, Pony brand lined running shorts (a TJ Maxx find), Brooks Ravenna 4 Running Shoes
{31 weeks}

Music I’m loving this week:
Next To Me – Emeli Sande
Lights – Ellie Goulding
Summer Nights – Rascal Flatts
Get Your Shine On – Florida Georgia Line

5 out of 7 days of some sort of working out this week. How did you do?

Friday’s Five

1. I’m loving the 31 diaper bag I ordered for Dixie. I’m kind of obsessed with their new “Party Punch” pattern

2. HAP lost tooth number 3 earlier this week. He looks so funny with that big gap right in the front.

{Instagram: paigecparker}
3. I finally got my deck “Summer Ready” this week! Yay!! Much later than I like, but after an unusually wet and cold spring, I’ll take what I can get.

4. Hayden officially had his last day of preschool on Tuesday. It’s Friday and we are all still alive. Maybe there is hope for us yet! Bring on the summer…

His first and last day of preschool. Looks like he’s grown a foot!

5. In T minus 5 hours, I will be staring at this for the next 3 days! This picture was taken on memorial weekend last year. They haven’t changed that much from behind! 🙂

Workout Wednesday

Being 7 months pregnant may or may not be the best time to start “Workout Wednesday” but…It gives me something to blog about and will hopefully hold me accountable to my workouts. So here we go…

I will start with Mon-Wed of this week because I traveled over the weekend and can’t seem to remember much of last week. We will blame that on the exhaustion/pregnant brain. As many of you know this pregnancy halted my running around the 5 1/2 month mark. Due to some minor issues last week the doctor has now taken me off of the spin bike. WHAT AM I GOING TO DO?! That spin bike has been my saving grace for a good sweat since the running stopped. Now, I’m having to figure out other ways to get my sweat on… errrrrrr. Challenge accepted.

Monday –

30 minutes on the elliptical. 10 minutes (resistance 12 – forward) 3 minutes (backwards squatting low) 10 minutes (resistance 12 – forward) 3 minutes (backwards squatting low) 4 minute cool down (resistance 6 – forward) –300 calories burned

Arms: 15 chest press with 12.5 lb free weights , 15 shoulder press with 10 lb free weights, 15 bicep curls with 10 lb free weights, 15 overhead tricep extension with one 12.5 lb free weight. (repeat set 3 times)

Muscle Works group fitness class – 1 hour

10 minute cool down walk on treadmill

45 minute walk on treadmill (incline 4.0 speed 3.5) –360 calories burned

Arms: 15 chest press with 12.5 lb free weights, 15 dead lifts into upright row with 12.5 lb free weights, 15 bicep curls with 10 lb free weights, 15 overhead tricep extension with one 12.5 lb free weight. (repeat set 3 times)

My workouts have slowed down tremendously. I am used to doing 2 hrs a day 5-6 days a week in the gym in my non preggo state. It has been very challenging to keep the motivation going with all of the changes in my body and weight. Some days I feel like it would just be easier to give up and sit on the couch for the next 9 weeks. But I do feel better after I leave, even if I am working out like that of a geriatric.

Some workout things I’m loving these days:

C9 by Champion® Women’s Cardio Tank (found here) : I’m having to double up on my sports bra these days, for obvious reasons. I have a couple of these shirts from Target. They are considered a medium fit which means they aren’t “loose” but they aren’t too tight either. It has a built in bra so I only have to wear one sports bra then the top. LOVE. I’ve been able to wear it since early on in my pregnancy and it can still fit into it comfortably.

Danskin Now Women’s Mesh Panel Running Shorts (found here) : As I have mentioned before , I am always keeping my eyes open in the Walmart workout section. Sometimes you will luck up and find some cute, good quality stuff for really cheap. I found these shorts for $7 and I even found a couple of pair that were lined with the built in underwear. SCORE!! I do not like to spend a lot of money on “maternity” clothes and these have been great. I got them in almost every color!

Brooks Women’s Ravenna 4 Running Shoe (found here) : I’m borderline obsessed with my new shoes I got for Mother’s Day. They are so comfortable. Although, I am DYING to hit the road for a long run in them, I am really enjoying them for my new found walking career too. 🙂

Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream (medium sheer tint) – My face has been really dry lately which is very unusual for me. Once again, we will blame the pregnancy hormones. What am I going to do when I don’t have this pregnancy to blame stuff on?! Usually, I can’t wear a “moisturizer” because it makes my face very oily and causes me to breakout. I have been wearing this BB Cream to the gym. It is very light weight and doesn’t come off on my sweat towel and gives me just enough moisture for my face not to look dry and feel itchy. I talk about my other “Makeup Must Haves” here just in case you haven’t checked it out yet.

What I’m listening to:

Cruise – Florida Georgia Line featuring Nelly

Downtown – Lady Antebellum

Wagon Wheel – Darius Rucker

Cheers (Drink To That) – The Smash version

Gone Gone Gone – Phillip Phillips

Just Give Me A Reason – Pink

Did you get a workout in today? What are some of your workout favorites?

Friday’s Five

1. A week full of wins for our Grizzlies. It’s so nice to have our city that is usually full of controversy and political mishaps brought together by some positive light and celebration! Go Grizz!!

2. A Mother’s Day weekend spent with my Mama and precious kiddos. And some sweet new kicks that I can’t wait to test out on the road once my uterus is baby free.

3. 29 weeks and counting… Baby Dixie is going to make her debut before we know it! We got a glimpse at her precious little face this week and it makes me that much more anxious to hold my sweet girl.

4. Celebrating another year of Marriage with my awesome hubby. I would get all sappy here but ill keep it short. I thank God everyday for him. I am so blessed with a wonderful life and it is most in part to him. I look forward to 50 years more…

5. Speaking of sappy… Class of 2026??!! 😦 no way! I’m hoping its because I’m pregnant and all the hormones but every time I think of sending this little guy off to Kindergarten in the fall I turn into a big ball of emotions. There’s nothing like the love between you and your first born and I’m not quite sure this mama is ready to let go quite yet. That’s what they make summer for right? 10 weeks at home and no school and I’ll be shipping him off to Kindergarten with a smile. But for now, ill continue to dread it and look at his baby pictures! *tear tear*

My Running Story

“Running has given me the courage to start, the determination to keep trying and the childlike spirit to have fun along the way. Run often and run long, but never out run your joy of running!”

I have NEVER been a runner, nor would I consider myself an athlete. If you would have told me 2 years ago I would have ran 2 half marathon’s by 2013 I would have laughed at you. After moving to Memphis and realizing what a huge running community is here, I couldn’t help but get the running fever. I didn’t know that I would ever consider myself a “runner” but the race atmosphere seemed really fun and it’s something I thought I would give a try. Who knew I’d fall in love?? I became borderline obsessed with running and still am 2 years later. Starting wasn’t easy and I have had many bumps in the road that have halted my running. I’ve hit walls mentally and physically, I’ve learned so much about myself through running and I have met some of the greatest people. Running is more than just a hobby, It’s really changed my life in so many ways.

I started running in May of 2011, 5 months post baby number 2. I was still not down to my pre-pregnancy weight and like I said before, not a natural athlete. So, running was hard. There were times I thought I couldn’t make it back home, or to the finish line. But I did, and I kept at it and It got better and easier and every run was a little bit more satisfying than the one before. As you’ll see below my first 5K was horribly slow. I remember that race and I don’t think I will ever be able to forget it. It was hot and humid and I wondered the whole time why I ever signed up for it. But as you’ll see with every race came a slightly better time and a sense of gratification that is unexplainable. I would now consider myself a “runner”. Me, a runner. Never would have guessed it. I’m even counting down to my first FULL Marathon in December 2014. Wow! If anyone ever tells me they “could never run”, I always say “yes, you can…I couldn’t run either.” Push yourself. You’ll be surprised what that body of yours can do. I know mine sure has surprised me.

Enjoy my ups and downs of races: PR’s (Personal Record), Slow races, Fast races, Injuries, “Just For Fun” races…they are all in there.

Then, this happened:

A runner’s worst nightmare, the 2 forbidden words…stress fracture. 4 weeks in a boot and no running for 8 weeks. Talk about humbling. I cried like a baby in the doctor’s office when he told me I was going to be put in a boot. I didn’t understand why this happened to me? I was running better than I ever had. Why?? I was so frustrated with my body because my heart was still “in it”. But, I did it. 8 weeks, no running. It as so tough and I learned to challenge my body in different ways. I worked out 5 days a week for those 8 weeks, picking up new classes at the gym that I never would have tried before. I learned that it isn’t always about what I want or my plans that sometimes our bodies just say STOP and we have to listen.

I found out I was pregnant with number 3, 3 days after running the half marathon. Guess I can mark “run a half marathon while pregnant off my bucket list”. 🙂 So, needless to say 2013 has been filled with baking a baby and a pregnancy that halted my running around the 5 1/2 month mark. Race season is in full swing and I am looking forward to joining in on the madness again once Dixie arrives in late July.

What’s your running story??

Derby de Mayo

Happy Cinco de Mayo!!

We celebrated last night with some friends so I guess it was technically a Happy Cuatro de Mayo from us!! Around here we look for any excuse to have a get together and with our crazy schedules they seem few and far between. With a nasty, rainy weekend and all of outdoor activities canceled (soccer, baseball) it was a perfect afternoon/night to hang out with 2 of our favorite couples! No excuses. Although, I do wish the weather would have cooperated a little bit so some back patio fun could be had. Oh well. Beggars cant be choosers, right? It just so happens the Kentucky Derby was yesterday too. I love watching all the pre stuff. The big hats, the celebrities, the horses names… I am very intrigued by the whole process. We all had our certain horses we were pulling for. Though none of them won, it was fun having a horse to root for. Here are some of my favorite and not so favorite Kentucky Derby looks from yesterday:
139th Kentucky Derby - Arrivals
Does Lauren Conrad ever do wrong? I vote no. She always looks so simple and classy.
139th Kentucky Derby - Arrivals
Not really loving either one of the outfits here but they are such a pretty couple, I just couldn’t resist.
139th Kentucky Derby - Arrivals
Joey, Joey, Joey. No, No, No.

Now, back to our little hoorah, minus the hats. We are just as cool as celebrities, I swear.

The Menu:

Guacamole Dip – brought by Erin

7 Layer dip – brought by Courtney

Dump and Stir Mexican Dip – I used this recipe:

Fruit Salsa with Cinnamon Chips – I used this recipe minus the fruit preserves:

Taco Salads – I used this recipe for cooking the meat in the crockpot that I found on Pinterest. Why have I never done this before?? SO easy! and perfect for a get together where you want your food to stay hot for a while. Genius! I used store bought taco salad shells and set out some Cheese, Sour Cream, Lettuce, Tomato and Salsa for a fun, yummy and easy Taco Salad Bar.

Some Virgin Margarita’s for the preggo gals and some Bud Light Lime and Bud Light Lime-a-Rita’s for those that get to celebrate this holiday the right way! 🙂

Strawberry Cake – not really a Mexican dish but I was craving it and figured this was a good excuse to make one! I used this recipe: with 2 tubs of store bought cream cheese frosting, I whipped the frosting with the mixer and added some fresh strawberries.

I think we all ate until we thought we were going to pop. It was such a great time hanging out with wonderful friends and watching 2 minutes and 30 seconds of something they hype up all day long. Dang “Overanalyzed” didn’t pull out the W for me. Oh well.

Sweet Erin and Emmie. Erin is due one week after me with a baby girl, too! so fun!!

This guy is never far from the food table.

and this one… never far from the sweets.

Sweet Friends. Seriously, the best.

While I cleaned the kitchen, I turned around to find this…

Wouldn’t have it any other way…my cup runneth over.

And, that’s how we spent our Kentucky Derby Saturday/Cinco de Mayo celebration. What did you do? Any favorite traditions or recipes?! I’d love to hear!
